A gift registry site you must see! Scift.com

Never heard of a gift registry?

A very popular concept in the west but am seeing some amazing sites in India catering to this much-needed void.

A gift registry is an alot like your wish list. Its popularly used for weddings and special occasions like birthdays, baby showers and anniversaries too Typically, when a recipient compiles a list of items they wish to receive and then distributes it to family and friends, they have created a wish list.

Meet Scift.com –¬†INDIA’S FIRST GIFT REGISTRY PERFECT FOR WEDDINGS AND BABY SHOWERS! Scift is a brand new online portal for baby and kids products. They have brought together unique products from over 35 brands all under one roof. Gifts for every occasion including birthdays, baby showers, and more.

When I was asked by Scift.com to try out their newly launched website I was totally amazed by the concept. I immediately created my account and headed to try a gift registry option as well which is available under the account section once you log in.

This means you are able to let your friends and family know what you would enjoy being gifted. It saves them the trouble of assuming and wondering what to get you. At a click of a button they can quickly make a purchase and in turn, you get exactly what you wanted.

Products and brands on Scift.com

With over 35 brands Scift.com offers a huge array of products for kids and moms, there is something for everyone. and they have actually added a lot more since I last shopped with them in December!

So here is what I bought in Rs. 5000

Yep, all that! 4 things for Baby 4 and 2 for mommy ūüôā the shopping experience was fun and easy but the only glitch was the delivery. Each item came at its own pace, the last one, in fact, came after a month! Scift.com was made aware and they are working to improve the same. Apart from that, I think its a fabulous concept!

In fact, I did like to highlight a feature called “Give back” where they have tied up with various NGO where you can choose to donate for a certain cause. I absolutely liked this idea!

Do visit scift.com and am sure you will have something to pick for yourself. Or even better use it to help a friend with a gift registry!

How to get the best baby dresses through online shopping

Shopping for baby dresses has been one of my favorite things to do since being a mom! It’s such a joy because fortunately we now have a huge variety of beautiful variety of baby dresses available in the market. Especially as parents of 0-3 we do have to invest in several lots of clothing, thanks to their super fast growing stage.

baby dresses

However, we also want to ensure to spend mindfully and the baby dresses should be comfortable and bought incorrect sizing so the baby can wear it for the longest time while it fits him/her. As parents, we always want good quality fabric suitable for the season. If your child has sensitive skin you have to be double sure about fabric choices.

Initially, I used to take my little baby out and shop with her as I found it extremely difficult to shop her sizing and brought home wrong sizes and ran about exchanging them. It was just too much work for me. With time I learned and figured out the best way to shop!

The best way to shop baby dresses?

Get online! Yes, you heard it. Online shopping is the way to go. Initially, I was very hesitant but as I browsed I realized there are so many online stores that sell several top kids clothing brands.

Before you get online here are some tips that can make online shopping easy, fun and addictive!

1.Take a measuring tape and note down your baby’s stats in inches and cms. Most brands share a size chart along with each age group. Since children too have body types go by measurement instead of the age groups. Sometimes Baby K has fitted in a dress meant for 2 sizes small.

2. Plan ahead of time as you may sometimes have to make a return or exchange. In this case, ensure the online site you shop from has a return or exchange policy. Ensure you read it carefully before placing an order.

3. Have patience and make use of popular sales like Diwali, Christmas etc. You can make a saving of whooping upto 80% on some exciting range during sale season and save big. I usually use sale periods to make all my future purchases. Especially non-seasonal dresses become suer economical to shop. Also look for Offer where the certain banks provides additional discounts!

4. Once you receive the products from your online shopping ensure you check them thoroughly for any damages. Then try them out on your child immediately without taking off the tags. Some brands have wider patterns and suitable for plump kids while others are skin fit. Sooner than later you will know the brands that work for your child.

5. Don’t go overboard! It can be very tempting to buy bigger sizes just because these are on sale. Avoid this. From my experience, this can lead to wastage especially if you experience seasonal changes. Stick to max next 3 months in mind when shopping.

Hope you enjoyed these tips. Do share your experience on shopping online for baby dresses and I will add them to my blog

Dressing up the Coo Coo Way!

We¬†moms love dressing up our kids. It’s an absolute joy to buy mini clothing.¬† Especially in today’s time, there are so many options and variations available. Right from casuals, day wear, nightwear, party wear the list is never-ending.

Dressing up kids should be all about comfort!

If you are a Girl mom like me then you know the double joy of dressing up little princesses! As a new mom, I was always very particular about the clothes I bought for my baby girl especially the fancy looking party wears. It was disheartening to find such pretty dresses but all in wrong fabrics. Synthetics that were rough with no lining and would more than have fasteners or drawstrings or some pointed decorative things that might hurt your child.

So I realised that while buying clothes we must take equal care just like when we buy food for our babies.

I figured out the ideal baby/toddler clothing should be:

  • Soft, comfortable, easy to put on and take off and comparatively loose.

  • Easy access to his/her nappy because it requires frequent changing or bathroom visits.

  • Non-flammable

  • Lightweight and breathable

  • Non-irritating with smooth feel to skin

  • Underclothes/layers should be essentially made of organic fibres

So whats the whole buzz about organic cotton clothing for kids?

Ordinary clothes are manufactured using chemicals which can prove to be harmful¬†to a child’s skin, causing allergy, rashes and other skin infections. Organic cotton clothing is manufactured from organic raw materials and chemical-free processing techniques, which prevent any such risk and ensure complete comfort along with health.

More than often you either find good quality or good designs but getting a combination of both is a rarity!

Luckily I came across a brand that answered all my worries.

Dressing up the Coo Coo Way!

COO COO caters to the parent who is looking for high quality, classic, elegant and comfortable clothes for their children. One look at their collection at www.coocoo.in you shall be swooned over by the outfits designed for newborns to boys and girls aged 10.

When I touched the frocks sent for my daughter it felt like butter on skin! These are made of High-quality 100% cotton. Since Coo Coo does extensive fittings with children of all ages before finalizing their styles, we loved their simple yet chic trims and styles.

NPAT Loves – Matching accessories like hairbands and purses available with these dresses that help to complete the look!

Here are some of our favourite looks designed by Coo Coo for boys and girls. From classic and elegant look to comfort fit. they have got it all! We also love their Indian line using mainly Cotton fabrics like РCotton Thread Embroidered fabrics, Muslin Cottons, Cotton Dobby’s and Cotton Satins. Most Indian kids brands use synthetic fabrics and laces which most children refuse to wear. So Coo Coo will be our new place to shop now!

And there is more! they have matching outfits for dads and sons! I can’t wait till they get something for the moms and daughters and moms too!

Car Seat and safety – Necessity or Fad?

This is a Sponsored Post.

In India, Car seat Safety is not mandatory for children. But not only are car seats safer but much more comfortable than carrying the baby in arms -both for the parent and the child. Afterall as adults, we too wear a safety belt!

car seat safety

Many parents I met didn’t feel the need to pick an infant seat and by the time their kids are toddlers they are so used to sitting on their own that a car seat is too alien a concept.

Being in nuclear setup we knew we wanted to move out more often even after the baby. We did not want to miss on our social life or going on road trips. So buying a car seat was imperative.

Types of Car seats to choose from

  1. Infant car seat  Рtypically carries children up to 35 or 40 pounds and is rear-facing only.
  2. Convertible seat converts from rear-facing to forward-facing. It carries children from birth to between 40 and 80 pounds and 40 and 57 inches tall.
  3. 3-in-1 or all-in-one car seat can change from rear-facing to forward-facing, then into a booster seat for children up to 120 pounds. (Note: Some 3-in-1 car seats are not for babies since they’re forward-facing only.)

What helped me make a decision?

  • It‚Äôs cheaper to buy a convertible car seat instead of starting with an infant car seat and then transitioning to a convertible.
  • Also, experts say young babies are safer in an infant car seat. Many parents say their newborn seems overwhelmed in a convertible seat.
  • Nonetheless, if you go for a convertible, make sure it has padding or a newborn insert that helps your baby fit comfortably.

I preferred the Infant Car seat

We bought a Graco infant car seat when Kenisha was just 2 months old because

  1. This model can be used as a rocker and carrycot.
  2. It gives the baby her independent space when outdoors which is comfortable and cosy.
  3. And the best part is it is easy to safely place the car seat as a cot next to you or on the table or chair in a restaurant.

Safe & Environment Friendly baby wipes by MamaEarth

Baby wipes are every parent’s best friend

Primarily designed to keep the baby’s bottoms clean and smooth, baby wipes are¬†now used for every basic cleaning need. Be it baby pukes, wiping a mushy face, cleaning dirty hands. Forget that as an adult I use it all the time to remove my make up or for quick freshen up.

I have never moved out of my house without a pack! Even now when my daughter is 2.5 years old I always carry baby wipes in my handbag for emergency cleanups.

The Ugly truth about Baby Wipes

Baby wipes are no doubt super convenient but did you know that most baby wipes sold in the market are made from polyester, which not only pollutes seas and clogs drains if flushed down the loo, but takes hundreds of years to decompose on landfill. When I look back to our baby days I can easily say we were using up to 200-500 wipes a month (most packs had 72 wipes and we used 3-6 packs easily!). If only you can do the maths and think about how polyester baby wipes affects our environment!

Not to forget we use our baby wipes to clean the little hands and faces.¬† With that much contact with my baby’s bottom (and hands, arms, and face!), I wanted to ensure that what I am using is soft, sensitive, and durable. So when I looked around for¬†best natural, safe and non-toxic baby wipes, I found none!¬†Standard baby wipes contain some nasty chemicals¬†you might want to avoid on¬†yourself, let alone on your baby.¬†Things like parabens (a chemical preservative), fragrances (which can irritate baby‚Äôs sensitive skin), and a variety of other potentially nasty chemicals that you probably don‚Äôt want to rub all over your child. But I honestly didn’t find anything suitable so I¬†¬†carried on with the next best option.

How about a Toxin-Free Organic Bamboo Baby Wipe that is environment-friendly too?

But no more! One of my favourite baby products brand MamaEarth has launched their new Organic Bamboo based wipes! I wonder why no brand thought about this! We are in love with these fresh, organic, toxin-free environment-friendly baby wipes already!

Read on to know why you absolutely must get your hands on these wipes!

  • At about Rs.3.45 each these wipes are very new to the baby wipes market and are by far the best available as per my experience.
  • India‚Äôs first polyester free unbleached 100% organic bamboo based wipes, certified by Made Safe Organization. Bamboo fibre is more breathable than cotton fibre.
  • They smell great, they are durable and soft, they are large enough for several passes over a dirty bum, and the company making them (Mamaearth) takes “sensitive” very seriously.
  • A gentle blend of Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Almond Oil and Lavender Oil gently cleanses and soothes baby‚Äôs skin. Perfect for cleaning messy hands, face and body.
  • These are chemical-free, hypoallergenic, and are really great at reducing the risk of diaper rash. Perfect for sensitive skin, these leave a nice moist residue without any oily film left on the hands or bum.
  • The texture of the wipe is soft and flexible, with a little bit of stretch so they don’t tear very easily. Thes absorb really well in fact.
  • I loved the resealable packaging, which made it easy to keep the wipes fresh and moist without too much hassle. Usually, when you pull out a wipe, the next wipe comes out of the package a bit too much before letting the first one come loose; which means a decent portion of that next wipe will dry out after a few hours. But when we tested, Mamaearth packaging was 100% waste free. This also makes it Travel-Friendly.
  • Topping our list is an earth-friendly biodegradable alternative to traditional polyester based wet wipes. Can’t get better than this!

For such an amazing product I honestly don’t mind paying Rs.249 for a pack of 72 wipes!

When we make the right choices we also give back to mother nature. Kudos to brands like MamaEarth for being extremely thoughtful about the products they launch!
