Rainbow Theme DIY Baby Shower

Just like how a real rainbow is something beautiful and hopeful that comes after a storm, a rainbow baby shower was my way to celebrate the miracle in our life we awaited dearly. For me the Rainbow is a symbol of hope, love, joy, and beauty that comes after a painfully long journey of yearning for a child.

I planned my own Baby Shower! Yes, after all the doubts and anxiety I decided to celebrate with a handful of close friends! It was decided to be women only and planned under 20 days! Date was fixed and we kept it at our home as I felt comfortable being in my nest. My BFF helped to bring this to life and they booked their tickets to ensure we could set it up 2 days before the planned date.

DIY Decor

I knew I wanted it to be special and I took up to make my own decor! Call me crazy but I was determined to make it as colorful and theme cordinated!

Everything you see below was handmade by me! I used my electric die cutter to cut out baby shapes and then it was some long hours putting it together by hand.

  1. Several hangings were made with the cut out shapes
  2. Colourful paper fans added as accents at the main door and for the cake backdrop. I found cute colourful gift wrapping paper and used 4-6 of them to create the backdrop.
  3. I made rainbow hanging with some quilling paper strips and cotton.
  4. Banner to “Welcome Baby C” (C=Chauhan) for the center at entrance
  5. Photo booth backdrop with props and this was such a hit!
  6. Onesie shaped banner which the guests used to write a message for the mom to be and baby to come.

Return Favors

I thought about the return favors I wanted to give to all my lovely friends and I picked some Khadi soaps on Amazon. These came in various colours, smelled heavenly and were handmade. Along with it I added a 3 tea lights decorated with washi tapes and a sweet message isspired from Pinterst as you see below:

The Baby Shower Cake was planned by my husband. He wanted to surprise me and so once he knew the theme he told me to leave it on him. And I glad i did, it was the most beautiful cake and absolutely delicious

  • Rainbow Baby Shower Cake

Next was the food preps, now with was handled completely by my BFF. We even had cute names for each dish coordinated with the theme

Baby Shower Games!

Well unfortunately, I dont have many pics from this part of my showers but i do remember the games my friends had planned.

  1. Guess the bump size with a ribbon – Everyone was asked to cut a length of the ribbon that would fit the bump and the closest won!
  2. Whats in the basket : A basket full of baby products for the new arrival was showcased for 60 seconds and everyone was asked to pen down all the items. The first to get the maximum right won!

So that wraps up how we celebrated my Rainbow Theme Baby Shower! Sharing some of the happy moments from the fun day!

By the end of the party i had elephant feet and I swear I was too tired to even think of anything. But When I look back at my baby shower It has warm fuzzy feelings of sharing my joy with some of the best people in my lives!

I hope this post gives you some ideas in case you are planning your own or a friends baby shower! Lots of DIY ideas here or some on Pinterest can help you get started!

Baby Skin and Bath Products we love from Himalaya BabyCare Range!

In my earlier blog “summer skincare essentials for kids” I had shared about my favorite bath and post bath products from Himalaya BabyCare that I have been using for my daughter.

Mild moisturising Baby Shampoo

Himalaya BabyCare Baby shampooHowever, I missed mentioning about another favourite bath time product – the Himalaya Gentle Baby Shampoo. I have in fact tried a few popular baby shampoos in the market but this one has worked the best so far. It has a mild formula and is infused with the goodness of Hibiscus which helps moisturize baby’s hair, and Chickpea helps nourish hair and helps keep it healthy. Overall its’ a great baby shampoo and her hair shines, post every wash. Absolutely recommend trying this out.

Price: Rs. 82 for 100 ml, Rs. 155 for 200 ml, and Rs. 275 for 400 ml

Himalaya BabyCare

Diapering needs I can’t do without!

We moms can’t do without two important things during the diapering stage – an effective Diaper Rash Cream and good quality wet wipes which are suitable for our babies’ skin.

Himalaya BabyCare diaper rash creamOn an average a young child stays on diapers until the age of 2-3 years. Imagine the number of diaper changes and amount of infection headed your way if not taken care of! A good diaper rash cream can make all the difference during the diapering stage!

Weather also plays a major role too. Extreme heat or humidity and long hours in diapers can make your baby very uncomfortable. The best solution is to use is a diaper rash cream that effectively helps reduce skin inflammation. I have personally used and recommend The Himalaya Diaper Rash Cream  to several new mommy friends. It is infused with goodness of Almond Oil and Yashada Bhasma. Almond Oil helps moisturize baby’s skin, and Yashada Bhasma helps soothe the skin and reduce irritation.  Also, it helps keeps the diaper area moisturized and free from infection. In the 2.5 years of diapering, Kenny suffered a diaper rash only twice!

Baby Wipes – absolutely a must in your diaper bag!

Himalaya BabyCare wipesI never understood the hype about wet wipes until I became a Mom. Honestly, I remember watching a friend reach out to wet wipes for every small thing. Be it a quick clean-up post a diaper change, when the baby is outdoors and for a clean-up after food.

And now that I am a mom, I cannot recommend enough the importance of good quality wipes that will be your best friend throughout your journey of motherhood.

I use the Himalaya Gentle Baby Wipes XL which is infused with the goodness of Indian Lotus and Aloe Vera. The first time you use these wipes you will fall in love with how gentle these feel on the skin. Of course, it’s the Aloe Vera that helps keep the skin moisturized, and the Indian lotus helps keep baby’s skin supple. Unarguably, these are one of the best sized wipes that provide you with the benefit of Head-to-heel cleansing in just one swipe!

Price: Rs. 70 for pack of 12s and Rs. 126 for 24s

Himalaya BabyCare

I have personally used all the Himalaya BabyCare products for my daughter since the time she was born as these are clinically tested and proven to be completely safe and gentle on baby’s skin. Also, I love the fact that the products are free from harmful ingredients like SLS/SLES/ALES, phthalates, parabens, alcohol, artificial color/dyes, mineral oils, and animal-derived ingredients lanolin, tallow etc. As mom this keeps me assured and confident about the products that I use on her delicate skin.

Apart from these I also recommend some of the Himalaya FOR MOMS products like: Soothing Body Butters  and the Intimate Care range.

This post is in collaboration with @himalaya.babycare. However, the views and opinions shared are my own. I will never recommend anything to my readers that I won’t do or use for myself or my family.

Thank you, for making me the Mom I am!

This mother’s day I wanted to let my dear daughter know how thankful I am for her existence and the very essence of motherhood that I have been enjoying since her birth. I hope one day when she reads this letter she remembers that her mom loves her to the moon and beyond!

Baby Shower

Dear Kenisha,

I prayed for you every day for nine months, and I haven’t stopped since. I still remember bawling like a baby the first time I held you. You truly were a miracle child. It was hard to celebrate our pregnancy because we were somewhere scared that we may never see you. However, your birth restored my faith in the superpower I believed in. You made me a Mom and I will forever be grateful to you for that.

8 June 2015. Welcome baby!

From the day you were born to your first steps, each milestone has been the highlight of our lives. It’s truly an adventure I will cherish throughout my life, I smile every-time I look at photos of you which we clicked with our Canon Camera, its your dads favourite.

I will let you in on a little secret dear Kenisha, life is all about living to the fullest and creating memories. And, I want to not only create but also preserve my memories with you. Because unless these little beautiful memories are preserved today, they can’t be cherished tomorrow.

You will see that I have captured everything from your childhood. From the sleepless nights, to the endless diaper changes, from the often painful breastfeeding, to even cleaning up the daily mess, because these memories are priceless dear Kenisha, and you’ve made it all worth it!

All of us

I have been #Preservingmemories of your firsts and each milestone you achieve every now and then so that when you grow up we can cherish these moments together. In just 25 days you will turn 4 and am still pinching myself in disbelief. I wish I could stop time. But you know whenever I start to reminisce about your birth, I thank your Dad’s Canon Camera and Printer because of which today I can wrap myself with the nostalgia because I captured and preserved every second of those  precious memories!

From a little tiny baby you have grown beautifully into a loving, compassionate and an empathetic child. You make me so proud in so many ways! My heart swells with pride when I see you being a little independent human, filled with kindness.
I just want to tell you that you deserve the best! Don’t ever settles for the second best. And no matter what or when, your mumma is always there, to listen to you, to guide you when you need me. I love you my sweetheart, now and forever. And, I promise to keep #PreservingMemories with you.

Thank you for making me the Mom I am!

Summer skincare essentials for kids

Summers are great time to plan vacations and outings, but it is also a prime time for skin problems. Just like us, our babies may experience a lot more sweating and damage from harsh sunlight. Itchiness, dryness, sun burns, rashes, prickly heat can be troublesome during summer time. This is makes it important to follow a suitable skincare routine for babies and important to choose suitable products as well.

Our Skincare regimen this summer for my daughter:

I am sharing my favourite skincare and bath products to keep the summer rash and itching free for my little girl. This blog has been written after trying and testing these products and we highly recommend them too!

We are using the complete range from Himalaya BabyCare. It’s one of my favourite brands that I have been using since my daughter was born. Especially their wipes and diaper rash cream worked best on her sensitive skin. Their products are infused with the power of herbs and free from harmful ingredients such as SLS/SLES/ALES, phthalate, paraben, alcohol, artificial color/dye, mineral oil, and animal-derived ingredients lanolin, tallow etc.

Bath time favourite

For Bath time Kenisha loves a liquid wash in a loofah like me. The Himalaya Refreshing Baby Wash is perfect as it’s mild and soothing.

The wash is infused with the goodness of Watermelon that helps cool and refresh her skin, it also smells very nice,  and Neem’s anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties help protect baby’s skin.

Price: Rs. 85 for 100 ml and Rs. 150 for 200 ml

For those who prefer a soap bar for children, you can try the Himalaya Refreshing Baby Soap. Again, infused with the goodness of Watermelon, Vetiver, and Neem, makes this an excellent choice for summers: Vetiver helps manage itching and rashes, Watermelon helps cool baby’s skin, and Neem helps protect skin.

Price: Rs. 44 for 75 g, Rs. 55 for 100 g and Rs 64 for 125 g

Post Bath skincare routine

The only baby powder I have ever used for Kenisha has been from Himalaya. I tried their Himalaya Baby Prickly Heat Powder and it’s a great product to add to your summer skincare essential list of products.

Unlike similarly sold products, it is infused with the goodness Vetrier and Neem, which helps cool, relieve itching, and soothes baby’s skin It’s light and smells good too!

Price: Rs. 45 for 50 g, Rs. 75 for 100 g, and Rs. 130 for 200 g

Irrespective of the season it’s important to keep the skin hydrated even for kids. However, the choice of moisturiser and lotion for Summer must be thoughtful. The Himalaya Soothing Calamine Baby Lotion is light and absorbs easily into the skin and does not leave the skin feeling oily.

It has a herbal formulation and helps protect the baby’s skin from itching and rashes caused by prickly heat. Infused with the goodness of Aloe Vera, that helps accelerate the healing of baby’s skin, and Calamine helps heal wounds and soothes skin rashes.

Price: Rs. 90 for 50 ml, Rs. 165 for 100 ml, and Rs. 280 for 200 ml

Also Himalaya BabyCare products are clinically tested and proven to be completely safe and gentle on baby’s skin, yet I always recommend a patch test to everyone.

Have you have tried a Himalaya Babycare product? Which one has been your go to Himalaya BabyCare product? I have few more favourites from Himalaya Mom range  like their Smooth Body Butters and the Intimate care range

Influencer Marketing guide for Small Businesses

If you are a young brand who wishes to use social media/influencer marketing, then save and read my blog before you plunge into this new era of Digital Marketing.

On regular basis, several new brands and mompreneurs reach out to me to help them promote their new ventures and ask for tips and guidance to work with influencers

I have been an entrepreneur myself, now a blogger and also been a digital marketer who has worked with top influencers in my last company. Based on these 3 roles I got a fair chance to understand this space to share my take on what new brands must know before they plunge into Influencer Marketing. I have written this blog based on my knowledge, research and experience with the hope that it helps fellow entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Remember- Influencer marketing is not  direct sales. Its brand awareness and promotion which will lead to sales in the long run.

Why should Small Businesses use Influencer Marketing?

As a small business your crucial strategy is to get the word out to your consumers and encourage them to give your business a try. Influencers/bloggers can help to make that connect. Influencer marketing is similar to celebrity endorsement but has a higher weightage as people relate more to a real person with whom they can connect. The dialogue between an influencer and their audience is strong enough to help you generate an ROI of 10 times compared to regular ads and marketing efforts.

An important benefit of influencer marketing is that you can actually reach out to your niche or a specific target audience. It all depends on the influencers your company works with, and who their audiences are. With more people spending endless hours on social media there are higher chances of your brand reaching to your desired target who may make the purchase on same day!

How is Influencer Marketing for a Small Business different from a that for a Bigger Brand?

Small businesses cannot hire or work with celebrities or top influencers with 100’s of following due to affordability. But the good news is that you can work with Micro influencers who may have followers in range of 0-10,000 with higher engagement rates. New bloggers/influencers will be happy to work with smaller brands as its a huge opportunity for them to showcase their talent and their creativity. This also means your opportunity work with enthusiastic and new age bloggers with an excitement to help market your brand at a much lower cost.

Getting started with Influencer Marketing for Small Business

If you think your brand is ready to take the plunge then here is a checklist of 10 steps to get you started.

1. Rule 1 is to have a good quality Social Media Business page (instagram/facebook) free from any personal/family updates. Once in while showing up yourself helps to connect with your customers but let’s stick to work. Use the intro space well to let people know your business well and to visit your website

2. Social Media is highly visual. Ensure you upload only high quality beautiful and pleasing pictures of your products with important information that will help consumers to make an informed decision. Add product details, pricing and how to buy.

3. A major mistake many small businesses make is hitting in the air. It’s important to understand your products and services and then specify your niche. This will help you choose influencers and bloggers to work with. If you retail mom care products then you should work only with mom bloggers, if you are a travel company then you can work with travel bloggers plus others who also travel and share their stories whether from fashion background or moms who do family trips.

4. Set your goals like -increasing your brand’s followers, getting more customers, or increasing website traffic. This will help guide you through the rest of the process. Having a goal can also keep you from veering off course.

5. Decide a monthly marketing budget and keep min 60-70% for influencer marketing in initial few months. This can reduce as your brand grows. Strategically plan social media campaigns that are spread over at least 30-60 days.

How to select and work with Influencers?

6. Choosing an influencer to work with is overwhelming. Look for influencers based on your niche only and go through their feed. More than follower numbers look at the content they create and engagement they receive. If their words and lifestyle resonate with your brand, it’s likely their audience will enjoy your products/services and buy them too.

7. Send them professional email with the scope of project to collaborate and ask for their quotes for certain expected work in terms of deliverables. If you really like them try and negotiate for a win win deal. Else let them pass. You can always return to them when you have better budgets but do not spoil the relationships. Look for micro influencers willing to work with you on a barter or small budget. You can request to review the posts they do before it goes up. this helps you ensure its aligned to your expectations and their commitments.

 8. You sell an expensive product or service? You feel you are already giving someone a good barter deal? It may work with few, but most professional macro influencers/bloggers may refuse to work on Barter. At the end of the day it’s their time and effort spent to help YOU to promote YOUR brand. So don’t feel bad if someone refuses to work on barter. They are just sticking with their work ethos. It’s not personal. Add these products/services cost as a part of your marketing budget. Think about this, if you don’t give someone a product to try how else will they be able to review it for YOU? You are the clear receiver here as brand not the influencer. Most can go out and buy your products if they wish to and not worry about reviewing it.

9. Influencer marketing is an ongoing process. Ideate campaigns that your audience can relate to. Plan it in a phased manner to create wave effect over a period of time. Read and research what your competitors do. Planning will be crucial here.

10. Still unsure? Hire a freelancer or a digital agency to guide you. Entrepreneurship is hard and there is as much money to fund.  But if you don’t do it now it won’t matter if you do it later.

Influencer marketing can help your business grow in abundance. Work hard, choose smart and plan well.

If you are a brand and found this useful, please don’t forget to leave your comment or ask your questions. Happy to help. I have also worked with brands in the past and helped them ideate digital marketing campaigns. You can reach out to me at info.nameplaceanimalthing@gmail.com and I can offer my services to you too.
